My apologies for being incommunicado these last weeks, but I’ve been a little busy building up The Acre with 30 yards of topsoil!
I’m thinking I’m going to have some awesome farmgirl biceps after this.
After the rainy season last year, followed by an even wetter spring, I decided to raise up what was becoming a pond behind our barn by about 6 inches.
The result? Additional space for more dahlias, astrantia, Japanese anemone, hydrangea, scented geranium and heat-loving annuals like amaranth and celosia.
It was a major project for me, and I am really excited to have a well-draining planting area where flowers and perennials will thrive in years to come.
Now that I’m done planting, I am happily turning my attention to harvesting early summer blooms, like peonies, ranunculus and poppies.
And weeding. So. Many. Weeds.
